As you may or may not know, search engines often change their direction regarding what to count heavily for high search engine ranking. With the explosion of social media, most of the search engines are paying attention to this trend and have now gone to give these sites more weight in ranking.

One of the largest search engines is now basing their search engine rankings on the combination of the following:

  1. Owning a blog site
  2. Regular posting of content in the blog
  3. Frequent posting of pictures in the blog
  4. Regular posting of comments on other blogs with backlinks to your own blog
  5. Posting of content of your blog to social bookmarking sites
  6. Video presence on most of the popular public video sites
  7. Submssion of blog content in the form of articles to article directories
  8. Registering of blog URL to as many website and blog diretories as possible
  9. Submission of content to social media sites
  10. Register and participation to popular forums in your industry
  11. Register and participation to podcasting sites
  12. Register and participation in MISC social media sites such as Slideshare, Scribd, and any other multimedia sites

The Master Rule of Thumb is to “spread out” your online presence in the most effective sites as possible to bring “natural” traffic to your site. This is key in bringing your search engine ranking to the first page. This is certainly involves ongoing work to keep up with what the search engine wants from your site.
