Three Things Every Business Blog Should Have

By Bruce · Sunday, January 24th, 2010

For any business blog to be worth the effort to your business, whether offline or online, you must have three main things going on.

  1. Consistent blog posts that are valuable to the reader
  2. An opt-in type of device to capture prospects
  3. Video that is embedded in your blog, related to your product or service

It is not necessary to have ads or products or many “distracting” bells and whistles in your blog. There seems to be a trend lately of making a blog very “busy” in design. I can’t stress enough that “less is more.”

If you have many other offerings on your blog, make navigation buttons instead so your blog does not feel “bloated” with too many things on the front post page. Of course, you can make a static page as your front blog page, but that would defeat the purpose of letting your visitors immediate access to your relevant posts that they are interested in reading.

I love the blog format, not only for its built in SEO capabilities, but as an easy way to navigate to information I seek quickly. When I visit other blogs, I want to be able to get to the information I want immediately and consume it so I can get on with either using the information or moving on to my next chore of the day.

I can’t stress enough that you must be responsible to “feed” your blog with worthwhile content as often as you can. In the long run it is going to help make your search engine rankings solid for years to come.
