Step Two – Give a Free Gift – Build Your List
This step is an all important one. Make sure that you have a complementary gift of some kind to give to your target market. Everyone loves something for free, even if it means spending more money in the back end. Casinos are an excellent business model for this. Have you ever been invited to a casino via mail with coupons to “claim” your free money? It could be $50 in slot pay or poker chips. Either way, it is perceived as something for nothing and entices people to make reservations to stay at that casino. Once there, the customer claims their “freebie” and off they go to gamble….guaranteed to spend more than they got for free.
It is human nature to get something for free. So play on what attracts us to take action and make your free gift. This “gift” could be in the form of a report, a sample of your product, an advertising specialty item, let your imagination come up with something that you know will motivate your target audience to take some action to get your gift.
This is the start of the phase, “turning a stranger into a friend.” The old sales adage that people buy from someone they “know, like, and trust,” seems to ring true now, more than ever.
