Social Network Sites and Blogs

By Bruce · Friday, June 5th, 2009

twitterWith the popularity of Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, and Linkdin, there is little room for any other types of social networking outlets lately!

If you plan on blogging your business, make sure you have enough time to spend on your social network, IF you choose to do so. We are of the opinion that having a Twitter, Facebook or any other social media membership does not necessarily mean your blog is going to do any better than with other means of attracting visitor traffic.

As a matter of fact, there is late breaking news this past week, that people who signed up on the most popular, Twitter, have a 60% drop off rate after only one month of using it.  If you have visited many blogs, you will see that there are “Twitter updates” and connections with “Myspace,” and such that are attached to the sidebars of blogs. This is how social media and blogs connect to enhance driving traffic. Or does it? When you are trying to keep up with “following” and be “followed,” it certainly can take away from regularly inserting relavent content on your blog.

In conclusion, be wary of the time it will take to spend on your social networks. Try to measure the true “ROI” when adding social media in your marketing mix. We truly believe that you will get more “mileage” with enhancing your blog more than connecting it with social media sites.
