The Excuses Why Businesses Don’t Blog

By Bruce · Thursday, July 1st, 2010

I have been in touch with many businesses this week and a lot of them will tell me that they don’t have a blog nor do they want one. I explained the best advantages for them to have one, even if they use it in a very small capacity. The answer I get is usually that they have no time for one.  Strange, because if blogging, in combination of all their other efforts of marketing their business would beef up their “reputation” for providing execellent services and products.

Another excuse I get is they don’t want to write posts or even take the time to outsource this. I further ask them, how they expect to enhance their sales or marketing efforts. They tell me they are going to ramp up their print advertising. I asked how is the ROI on that at the moment. They tell me about 3% to 6% of sales.

It seems that many “brick and mortar” businesses are struggling with major change on how to best market their business. They tell me that they are going to try “Twitter and Facebook marketing,” whatever that means. I told them that Twitter and Facebook is going to equally be work to do everyday, as a matter of fact, they will take up even more time than if they had a blog to maintain.

In any case, social media is here to stay and blogging, recognized as a very effective social media tool, will continue to dominate the search engines like no other marketing tool out there.

For any business who is on the “fence” about whether to have a business blog or not, better warm up to the idea because chances are, your competition already is doing it and will leave you in the dust!
