Blogging is more important than anything else you can do now. Whether you have a business, working for some large corporation, retired, even unemployed. If you don’t have a blog, you won’t have a way to attract attention in getting business, of getting a job if you are unemployed, or even having friends!

We are an online society, and it has taken on the world stage. I truly believe that in order to survive into the future, you need an online presence. Often, in my seminars, I even intruct my students to reserve their own name with a domain name company. You can always use it in the future.

Branding plays a key in the success of your business and personal success. If you brand your name, or your businesss, a blog can do that.

If you have not had any writing experience, I suggest you brush up on writing skills. When you start a blog, you become a publisher. When you become a publisher, you are responsible to write consistently.

I am often asked by bloggers, “what can I write about?” You should look everywhere around you. What is happening in your industry? What is happening on TV that pertains to your industry. What humorous things are happening in your industry. What kind of tips and tricks can you reveal to yuor audience. There is literally unlimited amount of things to write about in your blog.

Remember that your blog is an extension of you and your experiences and dreams and hopes. Share this with your audience and your will get a following and soon, paying customers.

Remember that, with these three social media sources at your disposal, your business is in front of as many of your targeted audience as it can get. But it takes a lot of work.

Facebook currently has over 500 million users online around the world. There are approximately over 100 registered users of Twitter and there are over 126 million blogs in the world.

Just with the Facebook and Twitter use alone, you have many possibilities of getting people to come to your blog to visit and become your “followers.” Now it can be a challenge if you are attempting to attract a local following to your business physical location, but that doesn’t have to stop you there.

When I teach people how to blog for their business, I also tell them that once the blog goes online, it becomes “worldwide.” This is something that should get your creative juices flowing with making digital products in the form of info products to sell to your “following” outside your local area.

Just think, if you owned a golf equipment shop. You originally intended on putting up a blog to get an online presence and to drive people, through local search of your blog, to visit your physical location. Well now you can think of serving two types of customers, the local market and the rest of the world!

This marketing of both the local and worldwide audience presents an opportunity to get the attention of everyone who visits your blog from being referred from Facebook or Twitter. With the blog software out there now, you can enable your Facebook visitors to go to your blog, your blog visitors to go to Facebook, and Twitter to do the same. Now at first, people coming in from these social media sites would not be “targeted,” in other words, it will have no value to your business. But eventually, there will be the type of people that will be interested in your product or service. These people will become your recurring visitors and eventually become cash paying customers.

So, although social media is a valuable resource to get customers, remember that, since the internet is always changing, what could be popular today may not be as popular or effective a year from now. Be ready to change when the trends to market your business change.

After interviewing a new blogging client, I was asked what made a successful blog. Whether it is for personal or business, I am convinced that you have to be passionate about the niche or topic of your blog. If you own a business, it should be a “labor of love” to operate so it is a given that you should put in as much effort into your business blog. Your business blog is an extension of your brick and mortar location. The attention you give your blog is the same degree of attention you should have in keeping the product stacked on the shelves of your business. There will be good days and bad days and you have to have the passion to see through any situation you find in your business.

So passion is the first thing to make your blog successful. The second thing to have is a penchant for writing. Yes, as a blogger you become a publisher and must be able to write. It won’t do you any good if you hand out the writing duties to someone else….you should at least write half of all your content on the blog. That is the only way to be connected with your blog and understanding what you have to do on the blog to satisfy your visitors.

Lastly, you must be able to guide your visitors through your blog. Putting in content for content’s sake is not going to cut it. You have to have a laser focus on where you want your readers to go. “Call to Action” is what you should be thinking about all the time. Give your visitors a reason for being on your blog.

For example, the purpose of your blog is to inform and educate people about your product or service that your busines provides. Explain, in simple terms, how valuable your product is to your customers and that they have to buy it today! Give them a reason to buy and buy now! You also need to generate a customer list. If you have an optin box on your blog, direct your visitors to fill in their details to get on your email list, today! Call to action is what a blog can achieve for your audience.

So let’s recap. The things you need to make a wildly successful blog is:

passion

write often

make a call to action

If you practice these three things, I guarantee that your blog will be successful beyond your wildest dreams!

WordPress, by far, has got to be the most popular and easiest blogging platform there is when seriously starting a blog. If you want to start a personal blog, a blog for your organization, or strictly business, WordPress easily handles all of them. Now, this is not a commercial for WordPress, as this platform is free and available to the public at large.

Wordress began in 2003 when matt mullenweg and his development team decided to make an open source coded blog platform. By keeping it “open source,” it means that no one has to buy the code to make blogs….it’s free! Since it’s humble beginnings, in 2003, WordPress blogging software has been downloaded millions of times and now powers hundreds of thousands of personal blogs to multinational corporations around the world. The team of developers are dedicated to keeping up on the updates to make the blog platform even better.

Blogs were originally meant to be personal online diaries, but now they have the capability to full out content management systems. This is the reason large corporations are now using this as their foundation of their websites. There is a movement to go from outdated HTML websites to the blogging platform.

The one main reason why users are attracted to WordPress blogging platform is how easy it is to use. Gone are the days when you had to hire a very high paid webmaster to set up, design and manage a business website.

Once up and running, a WordPress blog can be maintained by a “non-techie” within a matter of hours. I have proof of this because I have personally trained my clients for one full day and from then on, they were writing and inserting their own blog posts and moderating comments like a pro.

WordPress blogging platform is also at home with experienced webmasters and developers too. Because this is an open source code, techno “geeks” can get inside the PHP and CSS code of this platform and tweak it to their heart’s content.

It seems that WordPress will “rule” as the blog platform of choice for years to come.

This would apply to a business blog as well as personal blogs. Pay attention to what he talks about regarding search engine positioning. It really doesn’t matter what tricks you do to make your blog rise in the search engines, by keeping consistent posting of excellent quality content, visitors will come back again and again and by virtue of that, your search engine ranking will rise to the top spots.

Did you know that one of the easiest ways to promote your blog is by “guest blogging” on other industry related blogs? There are many advantages of doing this. First of all, you get to spread your expertise to a who new following. This immediately increases your visitor traffic because they are looking to you as a new source of relevant content to their interests. Secondly, you will get new sales from marketing your products or services to them. You help build your list, which is the most important benefit from having a blog.

Guest blogging is definitely a hit and miss proposition to do because you will get more no’s than yes’s from other bloggers. There are as many different personalities out there as there are blogs. Many bloggers may consider your competition and not be interested in you guest blogging on their blog. It could be jealousy sometimes that would motivate another blogger to decline your offer. The main thing is that you reach out to as many bloggers as you can that are high in quality and high in page rank.

You have to remember that there are over 200 million blogs on the internet and it is just a “numbers” game to find the right fit for your services. I guarantee that you will eventually find some quality bloggers that will take you on as a bonified guest blogger.

You must do your research too. You must find a blog that has good design, complements your blog in terms of content and style.

On the other side of the coin, always be open when another blogger approaches you to guest author on your blog. You may hit the “jackpot” if you find that the requester is an ace expert in your industry and has a sizeable following and has a high ranking blog. There are so many advantages for you that there is no need to second guess what value he/she will bring to you and your blog.

Blog content should “wake” people up! Yes, not the usual boring and non relevant stuff. It should be valuable enough to grab the attention of the reader and make them come back to your blog again and again. How do you do that?

Content has to have:

Variety

Original ideas

Address the problems and concerns of your audience

Be entertaining

If we address all these 4 items in your blog posts, I guarantee that you will have a loyal following for years to come. But now you know, it is not easy to just include these things, they must be well thought out in advance.

So, before you even make your first post on your business blog, make sure you lay out the topics of your content in an outline so when it’s time to start writing, you are ready to attract the attention of new visitors.
