Business Blogging for 2010

By Bruce · Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

I have been reading a lot of material regarding the state of business blogging and what to look forward to in 2010 and beyond. There seems to be an agreement that blogs will continue to be a mainstay of the online landscape but will be more focused.

There is a chance that blogs may restrict their content to be “pay per view” in the far future. Currently the advertising model consists of banner ads and text “link to” connections to affiliate products and services that are embedded into blog posts.

In any case, there is a thirst for more valuable content for visitors to see. There will be a combination of content and the sale of products and services that will balance out so that the visitor isn’t “sold” to. The visitor would rather “buy” from where they want to buy and not be bothered with ads shoved in their faces from a blog sidebar or the upper right as a banner ad.

My take on blogs and business blogs is that, in order for it to be a valuable asset, it should be more focused on relavent content that a visitor will truly find useable. The sales of products and service will follow if done correctly.

It is like making a new acquaintance and slowly turning them into a good, tried and true friend. The old adage, people buy from people whom they like, know and trust.

Also, with the FTC ruling about honesty in advertising, it has never been more important to be forthcoming with your content and how you present your product offering.

From this day forward, concentrate on your dedication to being helpful to your customers and prospects. The only way to market your blog is to be consistent with your content. The rest will come and you will prosper beyond your wildest dreams.
