Blog Marketing is a Puzzle
I have been asked about how to blog the best way from the start. I had to think about that for a moment and it came to me rather quickly.
I use the “puzzle” analogy. When I grew up, I remembered receiving a Chinese puzzle box for Christmas one year. I loved that puzzle box. It made me think logically while having fun. I initially thought that that would never figure out how to open the box and I would eventually have to get my parents to “solve” the problem….but I took on the challenge right away and got really into it. I recall how I did much trial and error in moving the slats on the side of the box up, down, right, and left, until I made some progress. Although I still did not open the box at that moment, I knew that it would be a matter time when I would figure it out. I had no awareness of time or space…it was almost a feeling that I was in a “zone” trying to work out something new and that I would feel so much satisfaction at the end of successfully open that box.
About an hour went by, and I finally figured it out! I opened the box and I found a $20 bill stashed in that box! My father had put the money in there as a “reward” of opening that box.
When you start your blog, you are given the “puzzle.” It is your job to learn how to “move the slots” in all directions by generating backlinks to your blog, to set up your header to look attractive to visitors, to insert your “opt-in” box to generate qualified leads, etc. When, through trial and error, you finally figure out the puzzle, you will discover the money inside the box through real life customers!
You must think logically and have fun at the same time. The spirit in which you start a business blog is very important. You have to be convinced that the blog is just as important to your marketing arsenal as everything else you implement regarding customer acquisition.
